CM directs officers to prepare proposal to set up IIT

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today directed officers to prepare a proposal and send it to the Central Government for the establishment of an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus in the state.

He said the state government was ready to provide the necessary land for it. The CM said the IIT would offer students world-class technical education, equipping them with the skills and knowledge required for careers in engineering and technology.

He was presiding over a meeting of the Higher Education Department held here today.

Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda, Minister of State for Sports, Gaurav Gautam, Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi and Chief Principal Secretary to CM Rajesh Khullar were also present at the meeting.

Vice-Chancellors and Registrars of state universities, besides District Education Officers, also attended the meeting.

The CM said the government had taken several steps to provide quality education to students, resulting in an increased trust in government educational institutions. Saini urged the Vice-Chancellors to focus not only on education but also on research, innovation, and skill development.

He emphasised the need to allocate a separate fund for the purpose. Furthermore, he encouraged the Vice-Chancellors to motivate students to establish their own startups.

The CM also focused on the importance of skill development for youth to enhance their employability. He said the government had fostered a conducive environment for industries, making Haryana a preferred destination for Indian and international companies to establish their units.

He also sought suggestions from Vice-Chancellors for the upcoming state Budget, saying that the best suggestions would be incorporated.
