Following complaints regarding the delay in redressing various applications by the Municipal Corporation (MC), Panipat, the Chief Minister’s Flying Squad on Thursday raided its offices here. As many as 60 employees, including several officers, were found late for duty on Thursday.

The team, led by DSP Ajeet Singh, raided the two offices of the MC – in Palika Market and in the Commissioner’s office in the Tau Devi Lal complex. Team members reached both offices before 9 am today. They stood at the main gate and sought information about officials.
Sources said around 60 employees reached after 9.30 am in the MC office, including executive engineer, account officer, clerks, computer operators.
Besides, the squad also reviewed the working of the MC officials. It inspected files of various wings of which many have been lying pending for a long time. The squad members also questioned officials about the reasons for delay, the sources said.
Squad member Inspector Krishan Kumar said as many as 242 complaints of the CM Window were pending.
Besides, 30 per cent of the applications of property IDs were pending. As many as 4,500 people have applied for correction in their property IDs but around 1,500 cases are still pending, he said.
Around 2,400 people have applied for new property IDs of which 725 files were pending. The MC officials have rejected 750 applications and issued only 900 IDs, he added.
The team also found several anomalies in the fire wing. As many as 497 applications were received for NOC for fire safety, of which 360 have been issued NOC, 125 have been cancelled and 12 are pending.
Besides, of the 176 applications received for correction in birth certificates, only 137 have been disposed of while 39 are pending. As many as 3,802 applications have been filed for the addition of name in the birth certificate, of which 56 are pending. A total of 265 applications were received for delayed registration of birth certificates, of which 62 are pending. Besides, 71 shopkeepers have not given rent to the MC for a long time but MC officials are not taking any action against them, Inspector Krishan said.
DSP Ajeet Singh of the flying squad said there was a shortage of basic amenities in the office. There is no proper arrangement of sitting or drinking water there for visitors, the DSP said. Besides, the rejection of applications, their cancellation or delay in processing these was common, he said.
“Today’s raid is only the first step as these will continue in future and records will also be sought from the MC officers,” the DSP said.
