CM to inaugurate jail training academy in Karnal today

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will inaugurate Haryana’s first state-of-the-art Modern Jail Training Academy near Kendriya Vidyalaya in Karnal on May 21.

The facility has been constructed on 6.54 acres at a cost of Rs 30.29 crore. As per officials, it will mark a major milestone in the state’s prison reforms and capacity-building efforts. Besides, it stands as North India’s first-of-its-kind training centre, capable of training over 250 trainees simultaneously.

Karnal Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh and Superintendent of Police Ganga Ram Punia inspected the venue and reviewed the security and other arrangements on Tuesday. The DC and SP directed the officials to ensure smooth execution of the event, emphasising the need for grand decoration, proper drinking water, sanitation facilities, and adequate parking arrangements.

Establishing the Modern Jail Training Academy in Karnal is considered a major initiative by the Haryana Government to strengthen the training infrastructure for prison personnel.

Until now, the Prisons Department trainees had to travel to distant locations for training. At the new facility, they will be able to get professional training locally.

The training centre premises is equipped with a wide range of modern infrastructure, which includes an administrative block, hostels for trainees, a state-of-the-art auditorium, conference hall, armory and a parade ground. For residential convenience, the campus includes a principal’s residence, eight Type-II and 12 Type-III staff quarters, enabling seamless living and training conditions.

Besides, the academy has a 0.40 MLD capacity Sewage Treatment Plant, a pump room, internal roads and parking areas, landscaping, storm water and sewerage lines, a tubewell, underground water tank and a comprehensive CCTV surveillance system.
