On Wednesday, a team of CM Flying Squad Ambala conducted a raid at the grain market following a complaint from Bhartiya Kisan Union (Shaheed Bhagat Singh). The union members said that a farmer had claimed that a commission agent had cheated him by filling excess wheat in the bags while weighing to pocket extra money.

A joint team comprising members of the CM Flying Squad and officials from the Department of Legal Metrology, HAFED, Food and Civil Supplies Department and the grain market conducted the surprise check.

As per the officials, there was a complaint that the commission agent was causing loss to farmers during the ongoing procurement. The commission agent was getting more wheat filled than the government prescribed weight of 50.600 kg in the gunny bags provided by the procurement agencies.

As per the complaint, there were 326 unstitched sacks of wheat on the spot. Of those, 10 unstitched sacks were weighed and a total of 82 kg wheat was found to be filled in excess. The 326 unstitched sacks of wheat were found to be overstuffed. The record of the firm was seized.

Incharge of Subhash Mandi police post Malkit Singh said, “A case was registered at Krishna Gate police station and the case properties, including wheat bags and record of the firm, have been seized.”
