Under this initiative, MC brand ambassador Shashi Gupta recently gave compost pits to the women of self-help groups (SHGs) so that they could utilise kitchen waste.

He said the women of SHGs were playing an important role in making people aware about cleanliness.

Officials were going door to door to make residents aware about the importance of cleanliness, he added. “The importance of cleanliness is being taught through awareness programmes competitions in schools, colleges and other educational institutions of the district. Besides, SHGs have also been roped in to spread awareness about sanitation among people,” Gupta said.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Vijay Pal Yadav said, on the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha, work was being done to make people aware about cleanliness.

The MC was donating compost pits to schools, colleges and educational institutions, he added. “This effort will help protect the environment and make the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri clean and beautiful. With the help of these efforts, the MC will also get the best ranking in Swachh Survekshan,” said Yadav.

He appealed to the residents of the twin cities to cooperate with the district administration in making the cities clean and beautiful. He also appealed to the residents to not throw garbage in the open, and asked them to separate dry and wet garbage and dispose of it only in the vehicles of the MC. “People should not use single-use plastic items. They should use cloth bags to bring goods from the market,” Yadav added.
