Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsWhile a group of advocates in Rohtak called for a high-level probe into the suicide of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, Congress and BSP workers staged protest marches in Rewari and Jhajjar, respectively, alleging a rise in atrocities against Scheduled Castes (SCs) in the state. The protesters demanded that the state government ensure justice for the bereaved family.
“We want a high-level probe into the IPS officer’s suicide case to ensure that the guilty are punished, but at the same time, it must be ensured that no innocent person is made a scapegoat. The government has transferred Rohtak SP Narendra Bijaraniya without any investigation. This decision should be reviewed,” said advocate Ashok Kadian, who led the delegation, while submitting a memorandum to the district authorities.
In Rewari, Congress workers led by former MLA and AICC secretary Chiranjeev Rao took out a protest march to the mini secretariat. The protest was also joined by representatives of social organisations.
Rao said the recent shocking incidents against SCs were a matter of concern. “On the one hand, the IPS officer's suicide has shaken the administrative system, while on the other hand, the incident of a shoe being thrown at the CJI reflects the deteriorating state of democracy and justice system,” he said.
Rao demanded that the suicide case be investigated under the supervision of the high court, the family’s demands be respected, and steps be taken to stop atrocities against SCs.
In Jhajjar, BSP workers gathered at the mini secretariat and raised slogans demanding justice. “There is resentment among the Scheduled Caste community as the government is mishandling the case,” said a BSP leader.
