Local Congress leaders and workers organised a condolence meeting at the party office here on Sunday to pay tributes to former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

Speaking on the occasion, Rohtak Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra said the contribution of Dr Manmohan Singh to the country would always be written in golden letters. He was a great economist and a man of great stature.

“If India is moving towards becoming a developed nation today, then the credit for laying its foundation goes to Dr Manmohan Singh. Whether he was the Governor of the Reserve Bank or worked in the Planning Commission and the Finance Ministry, Dr Singh left his mark in every field. His thinking and his decision-making ability were amazing,” said Batra, adding that despite belonging to an ordinary family, he received higher education and set high ideals.

Batra said Right to Information, MNREGA or Food Security Act, all were the result of Dr Manmohan Singh's thinking. “Haryana got many significant projects during his tenure as the Prime Minister, which are proving to be a milestone in the development of Haryana,” the MLA added.

On the occasion, the Congressmen observed two minutes of silence. Former Deputy Mayor Anil Kumar, Devendra Bharat, Surajmal Kiloi, Satish Bandhu, Gulshan Ishpuniyani, Sandeep Hooda, Loveleen Tuteja, Tarachand Bagdi, Yogendra Bose, Monu Sharma, Satyawan Chahal were among those present on the occasion.
