Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent allegation that the BJP won the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections with the help of “fake voters” has sparked a fierce war of words between the ruling party and the opposition.

Former Minister and senior Congress leader Capt Ajay Yadav said the revelation has exposed the BJP’s anti-democratic. The BJP’s state media co-incharge Shamsher Singh Kharak said Rahul Gandhi was trying to divert attention from the Congress looming defeat in Bihar elections by making ‘misleading’ allegations.

“Rahul Gandhi has brought forth undeniable evidence showing how the BJP manipulated the results of the Haryana Assembly elections through an organised conspiracy of vote theft, involving over 25 lakh fraudulent votes. The shocking figure clearly shows how the BJP distorted the people’s mandate through systematic data manipulation. The facts presented by Rahul Gandhi make it absolutely clear that the BJP government in Haryana is not a product of the people’s mandate, but of fake votes,” Yadav said. He further maintained that the entire episode symbolises the murder of democracy in India.

“The genuine mandate of the people of Haryana has been stolen by the BJP. The Supreme Court should take suo motu cognizance of the matter, the Haryana Assembly election be declared null and void and a judicial inquiry under the supervision of a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court be ordered,” the former minister demanded.

Hitting back at the Congress, BJP leader Shamsher Kharak said Rahul Gandhi’s allegation was a desperate attempt to malign the Election Commission and to divert public attention from his party’s imminent defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections.

“When Rahul Gandhi realises that the people have rejected his party’s agenda, he starts questioning constitutional institutions to play the victim card. Rahul’s baseless comments reflect the Congress frustration and loss of connection with the people,” he asserted.

Kharak claimed that the primary reason for the Congress defeat in Haryana Assembly elections was factionalism, self-promotion by the Hooda group and the disregard for other senior leaders within the party.

He appealed to the people not to be misled by Rahul’s allegations, reaffirming that the BJP remains committed to transparency, development and public service.
