Contractor put on notice for using poor quality construction material in Yamunanagar

Mayor inspects drain work, orders stoppage of payment

During an inspection of the site of an under-construction drain, Mayor Suman Bahamani found that poor quality material was being used in construction work at Tilak Nagar, falling under Ward 20 of the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri.

On the directions of the Mayor, a notice was issued to the contractor concerned by the MCYJ authorities.

The Mayor also spoke to the Executive Engineer concerned on phone from the spot itself and gave him necessary instructions in this regard. According to information, Bahamani along with Municipal Councillor of Ward 20 Vikram Rana and Junior Engineer Arvind Kumar reached Tilak Nagar to inspect an under-construction drain.

She thoroughly examined the material used in the construction work.

“During the inspection, it was found that the material being used in the construction was of poor quality. The construction work of the drain is also going on at a very slow pace. Samples were collected of the material and a notice was issued to the contractor concerned ,” said the Mayor .

She said instructions were also issued to the officials to stop the payment of the contractor.

During the inspection, the Mayor communicated with the residents of Tilak Nagar and listened to their problems. The residents of the area put forward the problems related to drainage, road repair and sanitation. The Mayor instructed the officials concerned to find a solution to their problems.

“I made it clear that there will be no compromise on quality. If negligence or flaw is found at any level, strict action will be taken against the officers and contractors responsible,” said Bahamani. A few days ago, the Mayor had stopped the construction of the boundary wall of trees on Jagadhri Workshop road in Yamunanagar.

During the inspection, she found the quality of bricks being used was of poor quality so she stopped the construction work.

She collected samples of the bricks and sent these to the laboratory for testing. The report of which is yet to come.
