Couple arrested for killing elderly woman in Ambala

The deceased was identified as Sudesh (70), a resident of Babyal. The accused were identified as Jasmer, a resident of Babyal, and his wife. A murder case was registered at Mahesh Nagar police station.
Mahesh Nagar SHO Jitender Dhillon said the information regarding a burning of a body on Boh to Nagla road was received on the intervening night of October 18 and 19. Following the information, the team reached and the body was recovered. The body was unidentified and in a burnt condition, it was kept in a mortuary for identification for 72 hours. Meanwhile, information was collected about the missing persons in Ambala and neighbouring districts.
During investigation, information about a missing elderly woman from Babyal village was received and the details of the missing woman and the body were matching. Family members of the deceased had informed that the woman had lent Rs 10,000 to a couple and she had gone to collect her money on October 18. The footage of the CCTV cameras were checked and the elderly woman was seen in the footage.
“During further investigation, the accused couple was questioned and arrested. Jasmer disclosed that they had taken money from the elderly woman about three months back and she was asking for her money. On October 18, a verbal spat took an ugly turn and Jasmer’s wife hit the elderly woman with an iron rod on her head, while Jasmer strangulated her with her scarf. Later in the night, they took her body in their e-rickshaw and dumped it and set it on fire. The accused were produced before a court which sent them to one-day police remand”, the SHO said.
