Police take stock of the house after the incident.

The incident took place around 1 am when Parsad’s elder son Parmod and his wife Seema were sleeping in a room on the upper storey of the house. His younger son Sintu and his wife were in a room on the ground floor and Parsad, along with his three grandchildren were sleeping in the adjoining room.

“Suddenly, I woke up and noticed the smoke in my room. I tried to open the door but could not succeed. I managed to come out of a window and informed the neighbours,” said Parsad.

He said that some neighbours came to rescue his son and daughter-in law, but it was too late by then.

Sushil, a neighbour, said they managed to douse the fire with the help of water. “Nisha had died by then while Sintu was alive, but his condition was very critical. He was rushed to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Later, the police reached the spot and sent Nisha’s body to hospital,” he added.

Meanwhile, Anita, mother of Nisha, has filed a complaint with the police against Parmod and his wife Seema alleging that they might be involved in the case as they used to harass Nisha over dowry. The police are investigating the case.
