Rohtak, August 18

The Communist Party of India (CPM)’s district committee has recommended the name of Jagmati Sangwan, a Bheem Awardee, international volleyball player and leading woman activist, as its nominee from the Rohtak Assembly constituency.

Jagmati unsuccessfully contested the election of Mayor, Rohtak Municipal Corporation, five years ago and successfully highlighted burning issues like the shortage of drinking water, choked sewerage system, poor drainage system, public libraries, etc.

She was an Associate Professor at the Department of Physical Education at Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU) before taking voluntary retirement to work in the social and political field. Jagmati is vice president of the All India Democratic Women's Association.

“Today, we discussed the prevailing political situation in view of the Assembly election. After the meeting, we sent a resolution to the state committee recommending Jagmati Sangwan as a party nominee from the Rohtak Assembly constituency. The CPM state committee will meet on August 23 to finalise the seats and candidates as recommended by various district committees,” said Surendra Singh, state secretary of the party.
