Addressing the media, Roy said hardened gangsters and habitual offenders would no longer be allowed to operate from behind bars.

This year alone, 29 gangsters have been transferred between jails to disrupt their influence. In Yamunanagar jail, a gangster’s illegal mobile use came to light, prompting orders for an SIT investigation. In Faridabad, officials and staff were found in unlawful contact with prisoners’ families, leading to a preliminary probe. In another incident, two prison staff were dismissed from service for serious negligence. Departmental proceedings are underway in all cases.

Roy emphasised that any officer or employee found complicit would face strict criminal and disciplinary action.
