A 29-year-old CRPF jawan was shot dead in the early hours of Sunday at his native village, Kheri Damkan, in Sonepat district. The deceased, Krishan, was currently posted in Chhattisgarh and had returned home on a month-long leave for the birth of his child.

According to police, the incident was the fallout of an altercation during a Dak Kanwar procession in Haridwar. The accused, identified as Ajay and Nishant — both from the same village — allegedly held a grudge and called Krishan out of his house around 1 am before opening fire. He sustained two bullet injuries and collapsed at the doorstep.

Family members rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead. His wife had delivered a baby boy just three days ago.

ACP Gohana, Rishikant, said the murder was reported around 1:30 am. A case has been registered based on the complaint filed by Krishan’s father, Balwan Singh. Four police teams, including Crime Investigation Agency and Sadar police personnel, have been formed to apprehend the absconding accused.

DCP Bharti Dabas confirmed that some suspects have been rounded up. "Ajay has a criminal record. The investigation suggests a minor clash during the Kanwar Yatra escalated into a fatal grudge killing," she said.

Krishan had joined the CRPF 11 years ago. His body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination.
