Agriculture Minister JP Dalal on Sunday said the state government has approved shifting of the famous masala and dry fruit market from Khari Baoli in Delhi to Sonepat’s Sersa village.

Addressing villagers after inspecting the land to be acquired for setting up the market, Dalal pointed out that only 16 acres had been acquired for the market but the traders had demanded 50 acres to relocate their businesses.

Urging the villagers and gram panchayat to speed up land acquisition, the minister said the new market would generate employment for 50,000 as well as generate revenue for the state government.

He said the site chosen was very suitable because of its proximity to the KMP and KGP Expressways that would make it easy to send consignments to any part of the country. “As Sersa is on the outskirts of Delhi, traders can return to their houses in Delhi after a day’s work,” Dalal said. — OC
