The deadline for updating birth records of children aged above 15 in birth records is going to end on December 31. As per the authorities, this is the last opportunity for parents who had failed to enter the names of their children even after registering their birth in records.

The state government introduced this special provision in 2021 to provide relief to such parents. Many families took advantage of this exemption, but still numerous parents were yet to update their children's birth records. The authorities appealed to the people to update the birth records of such children.

“The relaxation by the government for updating children’s names in birth records will expire on December 31. We urge parents to take action promptly. This applies to cases where the birth of a child has been registered, but their name has not been entered in the records,” said Dr Ramesh Sharma, Sub-Registrar (Birth and Death), Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC).

He said that such parents could apply on SARAL portal with relevant documents including a declaration, copies of school certificate, Aadhar, birth certificate and the rest of the work would be done by the branch.

“As per the Haryana Birth and Death Registration Rules, 2002, parents have a 15-year window to fill in the name column in a child’s birth record. Beyond this period, the government has provided a special exemption, but it is going to end. The parents can avail the opportunity and can register the names before the end of the deadline,” said Dr Vaishali Sharma, Commissioner of KMC.
