Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsCongress MP from Rohtak, Deepender Singh Hooda, on Sunday hit out at the Haryana government over deteriorating law and order situation in the state, citing the firing incident outside YouTuber Elvish Yadav’s residence in Gurugram earlier in the day.
“Law and order in Haryana has completely collapsed. It is not only me who is saying this. Two days ago, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini claimed that there has been an improvement in the law and order situation. If you check comments below the video in which the CM made the statement, even BJP workers are saying, ‘Nayab Singh ji, please take this seriously’,” Hooda said on the sidelines of a programme organised to pay tribute to Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra at the new bus stand.
Hooda, along with party leaders, including newly appointed district urban president Parag Gaba, garlanded the statue of Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra.
Alleging that Haryana has turned into an “extortion pradesh”, he said, “As per the Union Home Ministry’s records, Haryana has become number one in the country in terms of crime.”
The Congress MP pointed out that even the Special Task Force (STF) set up by the state government had acknowledged that 80 gangs were openly operating in the state, many of them demanding ransom without fear of the police. “Some of them operate from abroad and some even from inside jails. The criminals are not afraid of the police administration anymore, because they know the real control of power lies elsewhere—in Delhi,” Hooda said.
Commenting on the recent murder of a teacher in Bhiwani, Hooda said the entire state was demanding swift justice. “The police must immediately trace and arrest all culprits and ensure that they are given strict punishment. It is the government’s responsibility to ensure speedy justice,” he said.
Hooda accused the state government of failing to protect its citizens and reiterated that law enforcement agencies were not taking the Chief Minister’s words seriously. “This shows how law and order has collapsed in Haryana,” he added.
On Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s yatra in Bihar, Hooda said there were several discrepancies in the electoral rolls. “We are demanding digital electoral rolls, but the Election Commission is not providing them,” he said.
He pointed out that Rahul Gandhi had already highlighted the discrepancies in the electoral rolls and that Congress leaders in Haryana were studying the issue and would soon come out with the facts.
