The Haryana Police have arrested a New Delhi resident for allegedly creating a fake website of Parivahan Sewa and trying to dupe people seeking online driving licence.
An official spokesperson said the incident came to light following a complaint lodged by a Hisar resident about the payment of fee for a driving licence at https://e-parivahanindia.online. He approached the policewhen he realised that he had been duped.
He said a man filed a complaint alleging that he visited the Parivahan Sewa website on the Internet, thinking it was the official website of the Transport Department. He paid the prescribed fee ofRs 1,593 for driving licenceon the fake website.
On receiving the complaint, a cyber crime team of the police started a probe and technical investigation led to the arrest of a suspect involved in the crime.
The accused was identified as Kapil Kumar, a resident of Bhajanpura, Garhi Mandu, New Delhi.
During investigation, it was found that apart from the Transport Department, arrested accused had also created fake websites of Passport Department (https://passportseva.co/index) and some other authorities like https://www.edrivinglicenceindia.in, and http://eparivahan.online/index.php, to dupe people on the pretext of online services.
The accused was booked under relevant sections of the IPC and Information Technology Act. — TNS
