The issue of cleaning and water drainage at the road under-bridge (RUB) in Patel Nagar near Sector 16/17, Hisar, has once again been raised at the Jan Samadhan Shivir of the district administration.

A social activist Yograj Sharma urged the officials of the district administration to ensure that the cleaning and drainage work was carried out daily. Sharma said despite repeated requests, cleaning and drainage at the RUB were not being done regularly. He emphasised that the situation worsened during rains when waterlogging becomes a persistent problem.

Residents alleged that due to the low-lying level of the ground, drainage was required even in dry weather to prevent seepage and damage. The RUB, constructed after a long struggle of nearly 25 years, was completed with an allocation of around Rs 2 crore from the Municipal Corporation, Hisar, during the tenure of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in 2018. However, the residents feared that without proper upkeep, the structure might suffer damage.

Sharma suggested that boring of 8 to 10 inches could be done on the municipal corporation land near the RUB so that accumulated water could be drained out and utilised for watering plants in the nearby parks and green belts, simultaneously helping in groundwater recharge.

He said the Commissioner of the MC, Hisar Neeraj, had taken cognisance of his demand and had directed the official concerned to make arrangements for drainage. However, despite this, locals complain that the cleaning is not being done at the required hours.
