Rohtak, February 4

Regular teachers at government colleges have upped the ante against the state authorities over its ‘lethargic’ attitude towards their demands. They have submitted several representations and staged dharna outside their head offices in Panchkula in support of their demands but to no avail.

Sharpening its ongoing series of protests, the All Haryana Government College Teachers Association (AHGCT), a state-level elected body of the college teachers, has now decided to gherao the Chief Minister’s residence in Karnal on February 18 to register their anger.

“The decision to gherao the CM’s residence has been taken at an online meeting of the association office-bearers yesterday after holding a detailed discussion over the authorities’ insensitive attitude towards our demands, issues being faced by the teachers and future course of action to mount pressure for getting the demands met,” said Dr Ravi Shanka, spokesperson of the AHGCTA.

AHGCTA president Amit Choudhary said authorities’ decision of holding interview for the professorship was not acceptable as it was against the UGC notification about the selection and senior scale.

Pratibha Chauhan, general secretary, AHGCTA, said it was also decided that the association would participate at a rally in Jind on February 11 in support of the old pension scheme.
