Despite Covid threat, livestock show inaugurated in Karnal

A day after the Haryana Government declared Covid an epidemic, the Animal Husbandry and Dairying Department on Friday began its three-day state-level 37th livestock show at the NDRI here, in which thousands of farmers gathered with their animals.
Ironically, the show began on the same day when the state issued orders to shut all colleges and universities till March 31 as a preventive measure amid Covid scare.
Despite, caution against mass gathering, animals will take part in various competitions, including a beauty contest and milking among others. Farmers will visit various pavilions of different departments and private firms.
However, a progressive farmer said the authorities must ensure the masks.
Earlier inaugurating the show, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat emphasised on the selection of best germplasm, which plays a vital role in the enhancement of milk production and could contribute in doubling the income of the farmers. — TNS
