The Haryana Government has appointed Devender Singh Kalyan, a retired Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, as the new State Election Commissioner (SEC).

Kalyan succeeds Dhanpat Singh, a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. The SEC post, traditionally held by retired IAS officers, will now see an IRS officer at the helm.

As State Election Commissioner, Kalyan will oversee the conduct of panchayat and urban local bodies elections across the state.

He is also known to be related to Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Harvinder Kalyan.
