DHBVN office raided in Bhuna over electricity theft, graft allegations

The Chief Minister’s flying squad carried out a surprise raid at the DHBVN (Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam) office in Bhuna tehsil on Tuesday, following complaints of electricity theft and corruption involving departmental officials. The sudden action created chaos within the office, as staff and officers scrambled for answers, visibly tense and unsure about the unfolding events. The operation, led by Sub-Inspectors Sunaina and Rajesh Kumar, lasted nearly seven hours and involved detailed scrutiny of records along with spot inspections.

The squad was acting on three separate complaints. The first was linked to the Nanak Ji Kisan Sewa Kendra, a petrol pump on Hisar Road, where it was alleged that an illegal electricity connection was being run with the support of DHBVN officials. However, when the team inspected the site, no active electricity connection was found. Instead, the pump was operating through solar panels and a generator.

The second complaint concerned Sanjeev Kakkar, former president of the Lions Club, whose residence on Nadhori Road was said to be consuming more than 10 kilowatts of electricity. But the inspection team found the load to be within the sanctioned limits as per the DHBVN records.

The most serious allegation involved an illegal colony on Tohana Road. It was claimed that a high-tension 11,000-volt line had been rerouted from open plots into residential areas to benefit certain property dealers. Residents alleged that this shift, made possible through collusion with the DHBVN officials, helped colonisers profit by crores of rupees. The locals accused senior DHBVN officers of corruption, saying public infrastructure was misused to aid private interests.

As part of the investigation, Executive Engineer Krishna Kumar and SDO Vijay Kumar of DHBVN were summoned and questioned. The raid left employees shaken, and many were seen questioning one another as the flying squad meticulously verified records against the ground realities.

After completing their inspection, the team compiled a confidential report, which will be submitted to the higher authorities for further action. Sub-Inspectors Sunaina and Rajesh Kumar confirmed that all complaints were investigated thoroughly. The raid has intensified public scrutiny on the functioning of the DHBVN in the region, and strict action is likely if the allegations are substantiated.
