The Department of Higher Education (DHE) has come up with a startup plan for developing qualities of entrepreneurship among the youth and to explore new avenues of self-employment through the National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers across the state.

Under the plan, various programmes/competitions based on entrepreneurship ideas will be organised in all those government and private colleges, and schools in the state where the NSS is available. Only NSS volunteers will be able to participate in the programmes. Interestingly, winners would also be given cash prizes of Rs 500 to Rs 11,000.

Only NSS volunteers will be able to participate in the programmes. Interestingly, winners would also be given cash prizes of Rs 500 to Rs 11,000.

The DHE recently sent a communiqué in this respect to NSS programme coordinators of all districts, colleges, polytechnic institutes and universities in the state to ensure holding of such programmes/competitions between February 6 and 13. There are more than 1.50 lakh NSS volunteers across the state, said sources.

“A committee to select the winners at the district level has been formed and the criteria for the programmes have also been finalised. District Education Officer, Block Education Officer, principal of a district NSS programme coordinator’s school, District NSS programme coordinator, one NSS programme officer and Polytechnic NSS programme coordinator will be part of the district-level selection committee,” said a DHE official.

He said after the districts, a state-level NSS entrepreneurship programme would be organised at Ch Charan Singh Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar, at the end of this month, wherein, winners of the district-level competitions would participate. All events would be organised under the concept of Swawlambhi Bharat.

“This is for the first time when such sort of startup programmes will be organised at educational institutes,” he claimed.
