Diaspora celebrates Haryana Day in London, CM extends greetings

Haryanvi diaspora living in the United Kingdom celebrated Haryana Day in traditional style in London. The participants presented cultural and musical programmes showcasing Haryanvi culture at the event held at the Indian High Commission office in London on November 8.

The event was organised by the Haryana Association in London. Its president Kuldeep Ahlawat said that the event turned out to be a memorable programme as people from the Indian diaspora settled in the UK exhibited the cultural heritage of Haryana. The High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom VK Doraiswami graced the event as the chief guest.

The programme was organised to commemorate the foundation day of Haryana and eight other states which were founded on November 1, 1966. Ahlawat said that the occasion was celebrated in a grand manner at the Indian High Commission office in London. He said that a colourful cultural programme showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Haryana and other Indian states was presented on the occasion.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also extended his wishes as he sent a video message to the Haryanvi people living in the UK. In his message, the chief minister said that even though they were living on foreign soil, it’s a matter of pride for Haryana as they were still keeping the traditions and heritage of their motherland alive in their hearts. “I wish that you will continue to be proud of your roots and I hope that you will contribute to the growth and progress of Haryana,” the CM said.

Olympic medalists Neeraj Chopra and Manu Bhaker also sent video messages to extend their best wishes. They appreciated the efforts of the Haryana Association and extended their best wishes for this unique event.

Ahlawat also highlighted the work being done by the Haryana Association to keep the Haryanvi culture alive in the UK. Haryanvi folk dance, music and cultural performances enthralled the audience and gave a glimpse of the culture of different states of India, he said.

Among several others, the participants in the cultural extravaganza included Haryanvi cultural artistes Armaan Ahlawat, Ujjwal Chahal , Mamta Jakhar, Rita Ahlawat and Komal Panwar.
