Two days after a huge chunk of plaster fell from the bedroom ceiling of a flat in DLF New Town Heights Society in Sector 90, the Department Of Town and Country Planning has issued a show-cause notice to DLF builders.

While the realtor tried to evade responsibility claiming maintenance was long handed over to the RWA, District Town Planner (Enforcement) Manish Yadav said prima facie it seemed a structural safety issue.

“A show-cause notice was served to the builder as flatmates and society residents hold him accountable and have alleged poor structural safety. We have ordered immediate review and repair to ensure safety of the residents of the flat,” said Yadav.

It was on the night of August 27 that a large piece of plaster fell off the bedroom ceiling on the seventh floor flat of the society. The room was unoccupied at the time, preventing a mishap.

Jugabrata Gogoi, who lives in the flat, said his wife was busy with preparations for Janmashtami when the crash from the bedroom startled her. He called up the police but no action was taken.

“Yes, we are responsible for maintenance, but this happened due to poor construction quality. This is first time it has happened in one of the rooms,” said an RWA member.
