Ambala, February 25
A medical officer appointed at the hospital of Central Jail in Ambala has accused two jail inmates of assault and a DSP of misbehaviour.
The inmates, who were booked under Sections 186 and 353 of the IPC, were identified as Gagan and Sandeep. As per information, Gagan was involved in the Nabha jailbreak case.
Dr Sahil stated that he was currently posted as medical officer at the Central Jail. On Monday, jail inmates Gagan and Sandeep were brought to the jail hospital with complaints of stomach ache.
“After examination, I felt that they had used some intoxicants. I prescribed some injections and medicines and asked them to rest. A little later, they came back and asked me to give them some injection or tablets to make them fall asleep. As I had apprehensions that they were under the influence of some drug, giving them an injection or tablet to make them sleep could have put their lives in danger,” he said.
“As I asked them to wait, they started abusing me. One of them held me by the collar and punched me in the chest. The jail staff and others took Gagan and Pradeep away and I closed the door. They kept hitting the door and threatened me of dire consequences,” he said.
“Around 12:15 pm, I apprised the DSP on duty of the situation and asked him to send security. I called the DSP thrice over the next 15 minutes. After finding no security men by 12:30 pm, I called the DSP for the fourth time. As I was terrified, I asked him whether he would send security men after my death, following which he got angry,” he said.
“A little later, the DSP arrived. He misbehaved and tried to hit me, but was stopped by other jail employees. Despite no fault, I had to apologise. I was not allowed to go out of jail and had to make a call to the police control room, after which I managed to come out. I have apprised the SP and CMO about the incident and got four-day leave,” he added.
“A case has been registered against two inmates while no fact regarding the allegations against the DSP has come to light so far,” said the Baldev Nagar SHO.
“The matter has come to my notice and the doctor has lodged a police complaint. Further action will be taken as per police investigation,” said Lakhbir Singh, SP, Central Jail.
