The Raj Bhavan issued the notification on Tuesday, following the recommendation of the state government.
As per the order issued by Governor and Chancellor Ashim Kumar Ghosh, Dr Aggarwal will serve a term of three years or until he attains the age of 68, whichever is earlier. The appointment takes effect from the date he assumes charge.
Dr Aggarwal had been serving as acting Vice-Chancellor since November 29 last year, while also discharging duties as Registrar for over nine years. With more than 35 years of experience in medical education, research and administration at PGIMS Rohtak, he brings extensive institutional knowledge to the role.
He currently serves as national president of the Indian Association of Clinical Medicine and recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Innovative Physician Forum. Earlier this year, he was also honoured with the Master Teacher Award by the Association of Physicians of India.
His appointment comes after intense lobbying for the position. With his elevation, the post of Registrar at UHSR now stands vacant.
