He said a project would be prepared for a permanent solution to the waterlogging problem.
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) interacted with residents and farmers of the affected villages. He informed them that the e-Kshatipurti portal would be opened soon and farmers would be able to get their losses registered on the site.
Meena said, “Every year, at least half a dozen villages of Shahabad get affected due to waterlogging. Crops get damaged and people also face problems. Suggestions have been taken from prominent people and officials regarding a permanent solution to this issue. On the basis of these suggestions, a proposal regarding waterlogging and its detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared. The proposal will be sent to the government for final approval. As per directions of the Chief Minister, the e-Kshatipurti portal will be opened soon so that farmers can upload data of damaged crops on it. After this, girdawari will be done to assess the loss so that farmers can get compensation as per the government norms.”
The DC, along with Shahabad SDM Chinar Chahal, visited Kalsana, Gumti, Malikpur, Kathwa, Mughal Majra, Tangore and other affected villages.
He said instructions had been given to officials to keep a 24-hour vigil in villages. The priority of all officials should be that farmers do not face any kind of problem and all necessary arrangements were made as soon as information about waterlogging was received. “Helpline numbers have been issued by the administration and duties assigned to keep a watch on every situation in villages,” the DC said.
Later, the DC visited affected villages of Ismailabad and Pehowa blocks and inquired about the situation from officials concerned and residents.
He said, “A drone survey will be conducted in the affected areas so that a permanent solution is found to resolve the issue of waterlogging in the areas of Jhansa and other villages along the Markanda river. The project will be executed in a phased manner.”
Pehowa SDM Abhinav Siwach said a rise in the water level of the Markanda river affected several villages. A constant watch was being kept on the situation, he said. Around 2 am on Thursday, information was received that the gauge level at Jalbhera head had increased to 6.3 feet, and water discharge may flood nearby areas as well as the irrigation pump house. After visiting the spot at night, sandbags were placed and other necessary arrangements were made, the SDM said, while adding that the situation was now under control.
