Education is sadhana, not just about getting a degree: Governor Dattatraya
Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatraya stated that education is not merely academic study but a form of sadhana, involving continuous learning, during the fourth convocation ceremony of Chaudhary Bansi Lal University (CBLU) held at Prem Nagar village in Bhiwani on Thursday.
“Education is not just about getting a degree. It makes us aware of our responsibilities towards society. You should continue to learn throughout your life and ensure discipline, hard work and positive attitude to achieve success and satisfaction,” he said.
The Governor-Chancellor urged students to uphold good character, modesty and optimism, while keeping themselves updated with the latest skills and technologies.
He conferred degrees upon 1,276 students, including 48 gold medals—43 of them awarded to girls. The Governor also conferred an honorary doctorate degree on Dr Mallika Nadda, president of the South Asian Para Olympics, in recognition of her outstanding work.
On behalf of the university, the Governor released a souvenir marking the 10-year development journey of CBLU and dedicated a new ambulance to the university.
He said the late former Chief Minister Chaudhary Bansi Lal was widely respected for shaping modern Haryana. “He is considered the architect of modern Haryana. Under his leadership, Haryana made unprecedented progress in the industrial and infrastructure sectors. Named after the late leader, this university is a symbol of his indelible vision, which was based on education, innovation and social upliftment,” he observed.
Highlighting opportunities in emerging sectors, Dattatraya said, “By the year 2030, nearly 10 crore jobs are expected to be created in the IT sector in India. You can take advantage of these opportunities and create employment opportunities not only for yourself but also for others. Start new ventures by taking advantage of schemes like ‘Startup India’ and ‘Standup India’ run by the government and become job providers for others by adopting self-employment.”
State Minister of Sports Gaurav Gautam affirmed the Haryana government’s commitment to developing sports infrastructure across the state.
Rajya Sabha MP Kiran Chaudhary credited the university’s establishment to Shruti Chaudhary, now the state Irrigation and Women and Child Development Minister. “This university will soon be the top university of Haryana,” she stated. She encouraged girl students to prove their merit and urged the Sports Minister to provide sports facilities at the university and in the district.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Deepti Dharmani said the university is focusing on holistic student development. “The university has prepared a curriculum on personality development and character building. We have also taken a step towards sustainable development and adopted five villages, where libraries and reading rooms have been properly established,” she maintained.
MP Dharambir Singh, Bawani Khera MLA Kapoor Singh Valmiki and state Higher Education Council Chairman Kailash Chandra Sharma also attended the event.
