Launching a frontal assault on the Election Commission, Congress MP from Rohtak Deepender Singh Hooda has accused it of functioning like an assistant of the BJP and eclipsing the democratic rights of the people.

“Instead of playing an impartial role, the Election Commission has played the role of an assistant of the BJP,” he said while addressing a gathering at the flag-hoisting ceremony at the Congress Bhawan in Rohtak on the occasion of Independence Day on Friday.

The MP said a movement led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was going on against the theft of votes. “We will soon present the truth behind the formation of the BJP government in Haryana with facts,” said Deepender Hooda, alleging that the state government had been formed with “all arrangements” and by utilising “saam, daam, dand, bhed, tantra, mantra and yantra”.

He called for a fight to save the credibility of the Tricolour, democracy and the Constitution.

Earlier, the MP led a “prabhat pheri” procession through the city and garlanded the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Bhagat Singh, Lala Lajpat Rai, Dr BR Ambedkar, Chhotu Ram, Pt Shri Ram Sharma, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Ranbir Singh Hooda.

He saluted the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country.

Stating that development in Haryana had come to a standstill, Deepender Hooda lamented that the state’s youths faced a bleak future due to big challenges of unemployment, drug-addiction and crime.

“The BJP government has derailed the state from the track of development,” he remarked. Referring to Operation Sindoor, the Congress leader said whenever the need arose, the armed forces of the country had always risen to the occasion.

“This time also, the Army did its job well and brought the enemy to its knees. However, the ruling party did not fulfil its “raj dharma”. The Prime Minister called an all-party meeting twice, but he himself did not attend the meeting,” said Hooda.

He pointed out that the US President had repeatedly stated that the war was stopped by threatening trade restrictions, but the Indian government never refuted the claim.

“When the USA threatened us in 1971, our late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi gave a befitting reply. However, the BJP government did not maintain the reputation of India in the world,” the MP said.
