Members of the Karamchari Sangharsh Samiti (KSS) of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya (BPSMV) held a protest at the university’s main gate due to irregularities in salary disbursement for one year and pending salaries of four months - from July to October, led by KSS president Dr Rajesh and secretary Dr Suman.

The protesting employees said despite repeated appeals to Vice-Chancellor Sudesh and Registrar Professor Shivalik Yadav, no action was taken. The Vice Chancellor promised payment in 10 days during the last meeting on October 27, but there’s still no hope.

The harsh reality contrasts with the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ drive by the government. As many as 1,355 employees, including 800 teaching and non-teaching, and 555 HKRN) were forced to face financial crunch due to non-payment of salary. Even the banks have begun to avoid giving loans to the university employees due to deteriorating CIBIL scores.

With a Rs 120 crore annual salary budget, approximately Rs 9 crore per month is needed for the salaries of the employees, but the budget allocated by the government is inadequate, as per the information shared by the authorities.

The non-payment of salary for four months has severely impacted their lives and all necessary needs, including loan EMIs, children’s school fees, family medical bills etc,. Cibil scores of the employees have been hit and mental health was also suffering, the protesting employees alleged.

The employees resorted to a protest that would continue till their salaries were regularised. The protest would continue daily for one hour at the main gate until the salaries were released. No duties would be unattended during this time, they said.
