The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has cleared encroachments from a busy service road to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic and diversion to main roads.

RS Batth, District Town Planner (DTP), GMDA, said the enforcement teams removed encroachments from both sides of the sector-dividing road in Sectors 50, 51 and 57 on Tuesday. The officials also restored the green belt in the area.

During the anti-encroachment drive, officials removed four major obstacles. Besides, 12 shanties, six junk vendors, eight tea stalls, three security rooms and 20 temporary shops were demolished and debris was removed for the smooth flow of traffic.

The enforcement teams also identified eight illegal access ways on the GMDA’s main carriageway at Double Tree Hilton, Bani Square, May Field Garden B, C block, The Hibiscus, CK Birla Hospital and three other locations. The parties concerned were requested to apply for road access permission within 10 days, else these access ways would be closed permanently, the officials warned.

Batth said the road had been witnessing long traffic jams for the past 10 years as the service road was blocked at many locations. “Keeping a close watch on all of them, first notices were issued as per law and then encroachments were removed on Tuesday,” he added.

During the one-day drive, 2-km service road was cleared on both sides. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority would soon develop this as a model road, Batth said.
