Enraged at the lack of development in their areas, members of the Block Development Committee (BDC) locked the office of the Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) at Sampla here on Monday.

They also staged a protest at the BDPO office. BDC chairman Teenu Khatri and vice-chairman Sunil Malik said no developmental work had been carried out for nearly 1.5 years. Both Khatri and Malik owe allegiance to the ruling party.

“The state government has given more authority and financial powers to the sarpanches, but the chairpersons, vice-chairpersons and members of the BDCs as well as Zila Parishads continue to be neglected, which is unacceptable,” said Malik.

Meanwhile, the BDPO assured the protesters that their issues would be addressed within a week.

On the other hand, Rohtak Zila Parishad members, who had been protesting to press their demand for a meeting of the parishad, ended their protest as a general house meeting has been convened on July 24.
