Jhinda said, “The hospital had registered an OPD of over 500 patients on Monday, and we also interacted with the patients and their attendants. They have expressed satisfaction with the services and facilities being provided at the hospital, however, they have expressed concerns regarding the higher cost of medicines. The patients said majority of the medicines prescribed are available only at the hospital. The patients have demanded that the medicines should be provided at subsidised rates so that people from all sections of society could afford the treatment.”

HSGMC member Baldev Singh Kaimpur, who is also a member of the Miri Piri Institute of Medical Sciences and Research trust, and Director of the Miri Piri Institute Dr Sandeep Inder Singh Cheema, were also present on the occasion.

“I have discussed the patients’ demands with Director Dr Sandeep Inder Singh Cheema and trust member Baldev Singh Kaimpur. I have also requested SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami, who is also the chairman of the trust, to ensure the availability of medicines at affordable prices,” he added.

To a query, Jhinda said, “Though, we have already made it clear that the HSGMC wants to take control over the Miri Piri institute, it will be done legally. We don’t want to disturb the smooth operations of the hospital as it will cause inconvenience to the patients. We request the SGPC chief that as long as the hospital is under his control, all facilities should be provided to the patients in a smooth manner and at affordable prices, to uphold the spirit of service.”
