Even as farmers of Haryana have refrained from actively supporting the Punjab farmers march to Delhi, they urged the Central Government to initiate a dialogue with the protesters to resolve the ongoing tense situation at the Shambhu border. Farmer leaders believe constructive talks can pave the way for a peaceful resolution.

“Farmers want a solution to their problems. A law on MSP guarantee is a long-standing demand of the farming community, for which they have been protesting. Farmers want a solution. The Union government must call farmer unions for a dialogue and ensure a law on ensuring the procurement of crops on MSP,” said Sewa Singh Arya, president (BKU- Sewa).

Bahadur Singh Mehla, spokesperson BKU (Sir Chhotu Ram), echoed the similar sentiments and said the use of force on the farming community is not good. “Every farmer wants a guarantee to ensure the procurement of crops on MSP. The Punjab farmers have been protesting on the border of Haryana-Punjab, but the Union government did not listen to their issues. Instead of using force on farmers, the Union government must pacify the farming community,” Mehla added.

“We want the government to act swiftly. The agitation affects everyone — farmers, traders, and common citizens. Dialogue is the only way forward,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Kaithal police remained on a high alert, particularly at the three key border nakas — Sangatpura, Tatiana, and Bharta — to ensure law and order is maintained. Rajesh Kalia, Superintendent of Police (SP), Kaithal, also reviewed the situation on these nakas on Saturday evening. The security deployment includes local police, along with one company each of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian Reserve Force (IRF). However, no farmers’ movement has been reported from these nakas and traffic movement remained uninterrupted.

“We are closely monitoring the situation at all inter-state nakas. Our primary objective is to ensure peace and prevent any untoward incidents. We have made adequate arrangements to handle any potential disruptions,” said the SP.
