Nagpal was a dedicated member of the Congress for nearly 20 years, holding various positions such as president, vice-president and senior vice-president of the city unit of Youth Congress, spokesperson of the district Congress committee and state secretary of the Youth Congress.

However, he joined the BJP in 2014 and worked for a decade. Nagpal said he had decided to return to the Congress because he felt disrespected by the BJP during his tenure. “I joined the BJP in 2014, but I have now returned to my old home. The BJP has mismanaged the state in every sector. Unemployment is a major issue that the government has failed to address, forcing the youth to seek opportunities abroad,” he said. After his return to the Congress, Nagpal was accorded a warm welcome by local traders in the city.
