Former Haryana minister and senior BJP leader Manish Grover, who had announced before the media that he would not contest the forthcoming Assembly election from Rohtak, seems to have taken a U-turn.

Grover, who had stated that he would counter the ‘Haryana Maange Hisaab’ campaign launched by the camp of former Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda in the entire state instead of contesting from Rohtak, has been actively campaigning in the Rohtak Assembly segment.

Political observers point out that Grover has a bright chance of getting the BJP ticket as he has a strong backing of former Haryana Chief Minister and current Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

The political aides of the BJP leader also concede that he is hopeful of getting the BJP ticket from Rohtak and is vigorously canvassing in the constituency.

“The former minister has been touring different parts of the Rohtak segment and holding meetings with his voters and supporters till late in the night. He seems confident of getting the ticket as he is motivating the party workers and placating the resentful ones,” revealed a local BJP leader.

Asked about the objective behind holding meetings and mingling with people even though he does not plan to contest the election, Grover said he was doing it for the party.

“I want the candidates fielded by the BJP to win the election. Hence, I am putting in relentless efforts for the benefit of my party,” he said. However, the local leaders of the BJP as well as the Congress and other parties feel that Grover will get the ticket and contest the election.
