Ex-MLA Gogi questions Cong list for MC polls, demands action against ‘betrayers’

Senior Congress leader and former Assandh MLA Shamsher Singh Gogi has criticised the party’s recently announced list of conveners and co-conveners for the upcoming municipal elections in Haryana. He alleged that individuals who had worked against official Congress candidates in previous elections have now been given key responsibilities.

Gogi’s concerns echo similar objections raised by senior Congress leaders, including Ambala MP Varun Chaudhary and Hisar MP Jai Parkash. In a letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, he has demanded strict action against those who, he claims, betrayed the party.

"I welcome the party's decision to initiate preparations for the municipal elections, but the list includes those who had openly opposed official Congress candidates in the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls," Gogi said. He also alleged that no consultation was held with district-level party leaders before the appointments were made.

The former MLA further pointed out inconsistencies in the selection process, arguing that while municipal elections are linked to urban areas, several appointees from rural backgrounds have been assigned key roles. He accused Congress general secretary and Haryana incharge Deepak Babaria of sidelining dedicated party workers in favour of his loyalists.

"I have sent a letter to the party president regarding this issue because dedicated workers are feeling cheated while those who worked against the party have been appointed as conveners or co-conveners," he said.

Gogi warned that if the party fails to take action against those who opposed its official candidates in past elections, it could lead to growing indiscipline within the organisation. "Stringent steps should be taken to streamline the party in the state," he asserted.

Emphasising the importance of the municipal elections, Gogi urged the party leadership to contest on the Congress symbol, arguing that a strong performance in urban areas would help consolidate support. "The party must focus on these elections with full energy so that urban voters can connect with us," he added.
