‘Excess’ fare being charged by private buses in Rewari, complaint filed

Taking a serious note of a complaint alleging excess fare being charged from passengers by private buses, the General Manager (Roadways) at Rewari Depot has written to the District Transport Officer-cum-Secretary, Regional Transport Authority (RTA), to take necessary action into the matter. The former has also asked the latter to intimate his office about the action in this regard.
In his complaint sent to the Transport Minister and local officers of the roadways department, Prakash Yadav, a resident of Kharkara village, alleged that private buses being plied on the Rewari-Dharuhera stretch, one of the busiest routes, not only allowed extra passengers on board but also charged “excess” fare from them.

“Passengers can even be seen travelling on the roof of the buses while compromising their safety. They are compelled to take the risk as the Roadways buses are not available at the designated stands on the routes. Surprisingly, no action is being taken against the private buses. Hence, I filed a complaint with the Transport Minister and the department concerned, drawing their attention towards this issue,” said Yadav.
He claimed that since after Covid, the bus fare from Rewari to Dharuhera was increased by the Transport Department from Rs 23 to Rs 25 but private bus operators are charging Rs 30 on this route. Moreover, they also put the passengers’ life in danger by allowing them to sit on the roof of the buses. This was a gross violation of rules," he added.
“I have lodged complaints many times in the past, but no concrete action has been taken till date. Since the state has got a new Transport Minister, I have appealed to him to intervene in the matter and take appropriate action so as to ensure safety of passengers and to check the arbitrariness of private buses,” said Yadav.

Dev Dutt, GM (Roadways), Rewari, said since the Secretary (RTA) is authorised to take action against private buses, hence the complaint had been sent to the authorities for necessary action.
