Experts stress transparency, legal checks in NRI marriages at seminar

The event aimed to spread awareness about the legal, social and practical aspects related to NRI marriages. The event was held in the Seminar Hall of CV Raman Bhawan.
CDLU Vice-Chancellor Vijay Kumar and DBRANLU Vice-Chancellor Devinder Singh attended the programme as the chief guests. DSP (Traffic) Sirsa, Sanjeev Balhara, was present as the special guest.
Vice-Chancellor Devinder Singh said that disputes in NRI marriages often go beyond the personal level and become serious social and legal issues. He stressed that women face many challenges in seeking justice due to distance, procedures and language barriers. Therefore, caution, transparency and proper legal advice are essential for safe marriages.
Vice-Chancellor Vijay Kumar highlighted the importance of verifying documents, understanding legal procedures and checking facts before entering into NRI marriages. He said many families ignore verification due to attraction, which leads to serious consequences. He added that the seminar was very useful for students, researchers, women and parents.
Assistant Professor Parul Vashisht from DBRANLU talked about the importance of transparency, proper document checking and awareness of legal rights in NRI marriages. Assistant Professors Prakhar Sahu and Akash Sharma also discussed NRI marital disputes, fraud, complaint mechanisms and necessary precautions. Devinder Kaur from the DLSA office informed that the District Legal Services Authority provides free legal aid and timely counselling to victims. Advocate Gurtej Singh also shared his views on the topic.
Dr Jyotsna Chaudhary from the Law Department conducted the programme and Dr Anil Ghanghas welcomed the guests. Senior faculty member Professor Mukesh Garg explained that under the guidance of CDLU Vice-Chancellor Vijay Kumar, the department regularly conducts such awareness programmes for the overall development of students. He also mentioned the support of the Law Department Chairperson Umed Singh.
