Inspector Bijender Kumar, SHO, cybercrime police station, got a tip- off that the fake call centre was being run from a rented house in the residential area of Palam Vihar.

Following tip-off, Inspector Kumar with his team conducted raid at the house last night where men and women were busy on computers and laptops. Majority of them were busy making calls in English using their headphones and working on their systems. They did not possess any valid OSP licences of the Department of Telecommunications or any other agreement/MoU related to their work.

The police arrested three persons, including owner of the call centre, which was operating since March. The call centre owners were identified as Mukul, Sameer and Tushar.

“On interrogation, the accused revealed that they used to send fake emails to foreign nationals using name of different companies, including Amazon. The email contained a fake customer service centre number. When people called on that number, it used to route to this fake call centre. The accused posing as employees of different companies’ extorted money fraudulently from customers through gift vouchers on pretext of providing technical support. We are questioning the arrested accused,” said Indivar, ACP, cybercrime.
