Faridabad to get four-lane road along Agra canal, Rs 81 cr okayed
The state government has approved the construction of a four-lane road along the Agra canal in Faridabad district. This new infrastructure project is expected to improve connectivity and ease commuting issues in the region.
A spokesperson for the district administration revealed that the approval came from the Chief Minister’s office following a proposal submitted by local elected representatives, including MP Krishan Pal Gurjar, Tigaon MLA Rajesh Nagar, and Ballabgarh MLA Mool Chand Sharma. The project is estimated to cost Rs 81 crore.
The proposed road will stretch from Sector 8 to Gharora village and serve as a bypass for several villages, including Mirzapur, Neemka, Tigaon, Bhainsrawali, Raipur Kalan and Gharora. Additionally, the road will provide a special corridor for vehicles heading to the upcoming bridge at Manjhawali village, which will connect Faridabad with Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh.
“The new road will be constructed on vacant land acquired by the Haryana State Minor Irrigation and Tubewell Corporation (HSMITC) for a feeder channel that was never completed due to industrial disputes and other issues,” the spokesperson said.
The HSMITC had acquired around 30 hectares in Tigaon Assembly constituency, which has remained unused for years. The 23.46-metre-wide strip of land spans approximately 13.49 km. Authorities plan to transfer this land to the Public Works Department (PWD) under the 2021 policy for land transfer between government departments.
A drive will also be launched to remove encroachments that have come up on the land. "The removal of encroachments is essential for the successful implementation of this project," the spokesperson added.
Once completed, the new road is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity, alleviate traffic congestion and support economic growth in Faridabad and its surrounding areas.
