Farmer booked for setting crop residue on fire

A farmer has been booked for allegedly setting paddy residue on fire in Yamunanagar district. A case has been registered against the farmer, Ranbir Singh of Ghilaur village, at the Radaur police station.

This is the first FIR of the season for burning crop residue in fields in the district. Dr Satish Kumar Arora, Assistant Plant Protection Officer (APPO) of the Agriculture Department, Yamuanagar, said the department got information that a farmer was burning paddy residue at Ghilaur village.

He said when a village-level committee, constituted by Deputy Commissioner Captain Manoj Kumar to stop stubble burning, went to the spot, it found that paddy residue was being burnt on 1.25 acres of land. He said the case was registered against Ranbir Singh yesterday. Dr Aditya Pratap Dabas, Deputy Director, Agriculture (DDA), said the Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Yamunanagar, so far got nine cases of active fire locations through Haryana Space Applications Centre.

He said after getting information about the active fire locations, members of the district-level committee, formed by Deputy Commissioner Captain Manoj Kumar, inspected all nine places. The committee members checked fire incidents and all were found to be of paddy crop residue burning. He said they imposed a fine of Rs 2,500 each on all nine farmers. According to information, the Agriculture Department got a total of 110 cases of active fire locations through HARSAC and other sources in Yamunanagar district during the paddy season last year. During spot checking, the team found 58 cases of crop residue burning.

The department imposed a fine of Rs 2,500 each on all 58 farmers. Cases were also registered against the farmers.

Was being burnt on 1.25 acres
