Activists of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni), who had been staging a dharna outside the Tehsil office in Shahabad against a naib tehsildar, today lifted their dharna after assurance given to them by local MLA Ram Karan Kala regarding the transfer of the official.

Accusing the naib tehsildar of misbehaviour and promoting corrupt practices, the farmers had begun the dharna on Monday. They were demanding the transfer of the official and an inquiry against her.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
