Farmers, under the banner of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, staged a protest in Sirsa on Monday, submitting a memorandum addressed to President Droupadi Murmu. The protest aimed at reminding the Central Government of its unfulfilled promises made on December 9, 2021, during the farmers agitation.

The key demands included enacting a law guaranteeing minimum support price (MSP) for crops and complete debt relief for farmers and labourers. The protesters also urged the government to save the life of farm leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on a hunger strike at the Khanauri border, by addressing his demands.

Farmers burnt copies of laws sent by the Central Government to state governments regarding agricultural markets, expressing strong opposition. They also highlighted the shortage of urea fertiliser and demanded an adequate supply.

Comrade Swarn Singh Virk called for the withdrawal of cases filed against farmer leaders during past protests and elections. Leaders such as Harjinder Singh Nanuana, Gurdeep Singh, Raghubir Singh Nakora, Hamjinder Sidhu, Balraj Bani, and Gurtej Barar addressed the gathering.

The protest, coordinated by Dr Sukhdev Singh Jammu, emphasised unity among various farmer organisations to achieve their shared goals.
