Farmers under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Mazdoor Sangh staged a protest at a toll plaza on Chandigarh-Hisar road in Pehowa area on Thursday in support of farmer Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on fast-unto-death for the past nearly 50 days. Meanwhile, INLD state president Rampal Majra also joined the protest and demanded the government to fulfil the demands of the farmer unions.

Majra criticised the government for ignoring the concerns of farmers. “Dallewal has been on fast for around 50 days and 101 farmers are also on fast-unto-death on the Haryana side of the Khanauri border in solidarity with Dallewal for the past two days. Surprisingly, the government did not call the farmers for dialogue,” said Majra, adding that the government should accept their demands, including a legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP) for crops with immediate effect.

Mahabir Chahal, leader of the Sangh who led the protest, said that they made the toll free for commuters in protest against the attitude of the government. “Our leader Dallewal has been on fast-unto-death for the past nearly 50 days, but the government is non-serious about the issues of the farmers,” said Chahal.

The protest concluded peacefully, but the demonstrators warned of intensified agitation if their demands are not met.
