Farmers to block national highway in Hisar today

Farmers are geared up for the show of strength as they have announced that they would resort to blocking of the national highway in support of their demand for the release of claims under the PMFBY on Thursday. The efforts of the administration to placate the farmers failed as the meeting with them remained unresolved today.

Agitated farmers, who had been staging a dharna in Hisar for about a month, alleged that the insurance firm had not started releasing the claims under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), despite the directions from the Centre.

The farmers’ bodies under the banner of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Pagri Sambhal Jatta held a meeting here today and announced that they would block the Hisar-Rajgarh Road in front of the mini-secretariat on February 8.

The police spokesperson said they had made arrangements of security in view of the call for the road blockade by the farmers.
