Open dumping by hotel and street vendors late at night has worsened the situation, spreading filth throughout the town.
Residents expressed frustration, saying that while municipal sanitation workers visited daily, many people remained careless about cleanliness. Some shopkeepers and residents deliberately threw trash on roadsides, polluting the environment and tarnishing the town’s image.
In response, the HSVP (Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran) Department has stepped in, putting up warning banners at public areas and markets. The signs clearly state that anyone caught dumping waste openly will face fines, and authorities will no longer show leniency.
Green Park on Hisar Road, a popular spot for walking and children’s play, has also been affected. Garbage heaps around the park have increased mosquito infestations and health risks for residents. Social worker Ashu Goyal stressed that cleanliness was a shared responsibility. “It is not only the government’s job. If every citizen keeps their surroundings clean, Bhattu Mandi can become beautiful again,” he said.
Responding to the situation, Junior Engineer Chandramohan from the HSVP Department said that repeated verbal warnings had failed to change the behaviour of some residents. “That is why we have now installed warning boards at multiple locations. Fines will be imposed on anyone caught littering at public spaces,” he said.
The authorities have also appealed to the residents to cooperate in keeping the town clean, urging everyone to take responsibility for their surroundings. Officials said strict enforcement of rules was essential to restore hygiene and ensure a safer, more pleasant environment.
