The dispute between the police and lawyers over the FIR registered against advocate Amit Sihag in Sirsa has been resolved, with the police agreeing to cancel the FIR. Lawyers, who had been on a no-work strike for several days, will resume work from Monday, said Gangaram Dhaka, president of the District Bar Association.

The strike had been ongoing in Sirsa courts due to police’s unilateral action in registering the FIR. On Friday, following a call from Sirsa Bar, lawyers across Haryana also suspended work, disrupting court proceedings and causing hardship for the public.

After the strike, government and party leaders intervened. BJP leader Jagdish Chopra and district president advocate Yatindra Singh played a key role in mediation, helping get the FIR cancelled through proper police process.

Chopra said lawyers played an important role in the justice system between the police and public. After learning about the case, he took it to the Chief Minister’s attention, who directed the DGP to resolve the matter promptly.

Officials from the District Town Planning Department did not comment on the issue.
